Commission A New Piece Of Music

Lachlan Pierce writes custom works for any grade level and most ensemble types and instrumentation. See a full list of past commissioned works at the bottom of the page. Pricing varies depending on the size of ensemble and length of piece. Please contact Lachlan directly if you have a commission request that is not covered in the pricing information below.

Important Information

For the best quality product, please allow 3 months or longer of lead time from initial payment to final due date.
Commissions with a final deadline less than a month out are subject to a rush fee.
A down deposit of at least 50% the total fee is required before writing begins.
Any commission that involves an arrangement of a copyrighted work will need to be approved through a licensing service such as Tresona. Commission fee will NOT cover the licensing fee.

Pricing

Small ensemble

Less than 10 musicians/parts

$300 per minute of music

These commissions generally cover chamber music, strings, choir, or jazz combo pieces. Instrumentation must be 9 performers/parts or less. An average length piece (4 minutes) would cost $1200.

Large Ensemble

10 or more musicians/parts

$500 per minute of music

These commissions generally cover jazz ensemble, orchestra, concert band, and wind ensemble pieces. Instrumentation must be 10 performers/parts or more. An average length piece (4 minutes) would cost $2000.

Marching Show Arranging

$1500 for arranging

$2000 for original music

These commissions cover writing the music for a marching band show. This is for sheet music only - no audio effects, narration mastering, or other electronic music components. The arranging fee does not include licensing fees. Commissioner must provide a show concept.
